Sexual Violence Research

Your knowledge and information centre for reducing sexual violence

Sexual Violence Research is the new name under which the Australian Institute of Family Studies will continue to provide research related to sexual violence, victimisation, perpetration and prevention. Our research focuses on the experience of children, women and men. This work has previously been delivered under the name Australian Centre for the Study of Sexual Assault and has been a focus of the Institutes research since 2003.

Our research will explore: the aetiology of sexual violence; characteristics of different forms of sexual victimisation and perpetration; impacts over the life-course; and how sexual violence intersects with other social issues such as family wellbeing, mental health, alcohol and other drug consumption, and social connectedness.

We’re excited to announce that we are undertaking five research projects in the following areas:

We look forward to providing updates on projects as well as news and events from the sector in the coming months. In the meantime you are still be able to access ACSSA publications and able to contact the research team via our contact page and on Twitter.
